Broadside was an early-’60s magazine devoted to publishing topical songs, and who else but Phil Ochs would be it’s #1 contributor? These tapes were recorded privately for Broadside to transcribe and disseminate, and show Phil at his most intimate.
Recorded between 1962 and 1964, The Broadside Tapes 1 is a perfect showcase for Ochs’ unique emotion, humor, and political perspective. This set features one of the most compelling voices of the ’60s topical song movement performing 15 original songs, and a cover of The Beatles’ “I Should Have Known Better” performed live with Eric Andersen.
