Shlomo Mintz, one of the foremost musicians of our time, debuted on Avie with a major new recording project: a 3-CD set of the complete violin concertos plus the Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola, and Concertone for two violins by Mozart. Mintz has been closely associated with Mozart throughout his performing and recording career, yet this album traverses much new territory. He garnered a Grammy nomination for his first recording of Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante; the violin concertos and Concertone are new to his discography. He made a critically acclaimed recording of the Brahms Violin Concerto with Claudio Abbado; the new set marks his first recordings of the composer’s sonatas for both violin and viola.
