AVID Entertainment’s love affair with the greatest jazzman of them all continues as we welcome Louis Armstrong & His All-Stars to the AVID JAZZ label.
After the Second World War big bands were no longer quite as popular so Armstrong decided to gather a small group around him consisting of some of the finest players of the day including Jack Teagarden, Earl Hines and hot drummer Big Sid Catlett.
This freewheeling group however did not really take off while playing the same old tired numbers as before until Columbia Producer George Avakian persuades Louis to go into the studio and record an album of WC Handy’s classic blues sides.
All musicians rose to the occasion and we feature the entire album here alongside it’s equally classic follow up devoted to the music of Fats Waller
Wonderfully remastered and with bonus tracks this is a great and essential addition to our growing Armstrong canon!
