The ever-more comprehensive Sony Classical Masters series is pleased to announce ten new releases. Ranging from symphony cycles to solo piano music, these budget-priced box sets celebrate some of the leading musicians of recent times.
The Philharmonia Orchestra recorded Haydn’s twelve “London” Symphonies with Leonard Slatkin between 1993 and 1994 to great acclaim, and this four-CD set is released complete for the first time. Slatkin is “an urbane and attentive Haydn interpreter” in the words of Gramophone, and his “fresh, refined readings” produce vivacious Haydn for a modern orchestra. “The majestic Symphony No. 104 (London)”, wrote BBC Music Magazine, is “especially impressive … played here with a thrilling exuberance.”
