AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from James Moody, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.
“Wail, Moody Wail”; “Hi-Fi Party”; “Flute ‘N The Blues” and “Moody’s Mood For Love”
James Moody is one of a select band of brave jazzmen who became known not only for their fine sax playing but for their adoption of the instrument, relatively unheard of in jazz, the flute!
James Moody began his career in jazz after a spell in the Armed Forces when he joined Dizzy Gillespie in 1946, playing hard be-bop with the legendary trumpeter for two years. During his colourful career Moody recorded for many labels including Blue Note and Prestige and played with many fine jazz musicians including Dexter Gordon, Milt Jackson, Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Charles Mingus and even our on Tubby Hayes, recording as Jimmy Gloomy on the Fontana release “Return Visit” in 1962!
