AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from Hank Jones, complete with original artwork and liner notes.
“Urbanity”; “The Trio Of Hank Jones”; “The Trio With Guests” and “Trio – Plus The Flute of Bobby Jaspar”
Born into an extremely talented musical family Hank Jones began studying piano at a very young age. His mother was a fine singer, his two sisters also played the piano and his two brothers would go on to become great jazz players in their own right, trumpeter Thad Jones and the extraordinary drummer Elvin Jones who became a member of the classic John Coltrane band. Hank’s early influences were fairly predictable for the time, Earl Hines, Teddy Wilson, Fats Waller and of course Art Tatum. Hank Jones had a very long career as a jazz musician both as sideman, accompanist and leader of bands under his own name. The list of who he didn’t play with would probably be a lot shorter than the ones he did play with. Just a few of the winners would include Ella Fitzgerald, Coleman Hawkins, Billy Eckstine, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and Charlie Parker.
