The Guarneri Trio presents essential gems of the Czech trio repertoire in this reissue of their successful CD. The Piano Trio in G minor by Bedřich Smetana (1882 1884), the composer’s only trio, echoes with his grief over losing his daughter Bedřiška, making this one of his most introspective and suggestive romantic chamber works ever. While Smetana wrote his trio as he was approaching the age of thirty, Antonín Dvořák (1841 1904) wrote the last of his four piano trios as a mature 50 year old, and its six short but highly spontaneous and attractive movements gained the affections not only of the composer, but of all lovers of good chamber music.
A first-class recording of Czech trio repertoire!
