This five CD set features a brand new recording of the complete set of Brahms’ majestic symphonies (Nos 1 – 4). The set also includes a selection of Brahms’ most popular shorter works, from the musical merriment of the Academic Festival Overture, to the emotional and volatile Tragic Overture and the masterly Variations on a Theme by Haydn. The final disc is dedicated to the lyrical Serenade No.1 in D major, symphonic in conception but with a much lighter touch and full of whimsy.
