AVID Jazz presents three classic Bill Evans albums plus including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD.
“Everybody Digs Bill Evans”; “Portrait In Jazz”, “Sunday At The Village Vanguard” plus 5 out-takes.
Voted “New Star” of 1958 by the Down Beat International jazz critics poll, Bill Evans certainly was the emerging hot new star of jazz piano in 1958. He is joined by a couple of Jones’s for the modestly titled “Everybody Digs Bill Evans”, Sam Jones who had played with Dizzy and Cannonball, on bass and Philly Jo Jones who had previously played with Evans in the Miles Davis Sextet on drums. The follow up to “Digs” is our next selection, “Portrait In Jazz” recorded in New York in 1959 and featuring Evans with “the remarkable young bassist” Scott La Faro and Paul Motian on drums. The same line up can be heard in a live setting for our final selection, “Sunday at the Village Vanguard” recorded over an afternoon and evening in 1961. Tragically Scott La Faro would be killed in a motorway accident only ten days after these recordings, an event that was to profoundly affect Bill Evans!
All three albums plus have been digitally re-mastered
