HYBRID SUPER AUDIO CD – WILL PLAY ON MOST CD PLAYERS
This recording of selected works by Bach in organ arrangements by Best (1826-1897) gives evidence of an approach to Bach’s compositions that may seem quite capricious today. This SACD presents highlights from his comprehensive edition of Bach’s organ works, from chorale preludes to the C minor Passacaglia. The Klais organ at the Christuskirche was inaugurated in 2010. Its powerful yet poetic tone is heard in this SACD for the first time in any recording.

I’m not sure I like the diminuendo ending to the Toccata and Fugue in D minor, but everything else is wonderful – and especially the glorious and majestic Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue. Great sound, too! The organ is in Christ Church in Karlsruhe.
