The Salzburg Festival – often described as the greatest and most important festival in the world – presents performances of opera, plays and concerts of the highest artistic standards.
In collaboration with Unitel, Deutsche Grammophon and Decca have taken up the challenge of recording all 22 works Mozart composed for the stage. Before the end of 2006, the 22 works performed in Salzburg 2006 appeared in rapid-release scenario on DVD. Almost all works are in new productions, all with strong casts, and many new to the DVD catalogue (i.e. all DG titles except the Figaro).
This Special Edition DVD-Box set includes all 22 operas, as a two-labels project, led by Deutsche Grammophon with 15 operas together with Decca with 6 operas and TDK with 1 opera.
All 22 operas from the 2006 Salzburg Festival
33 DVDs Deutsche Grammophon/Decca 07342213 (11/2006)
Due to the sheer number of operas, it was almost impossible to attend all these productions in Salzburg. The Mozart 22 DVD box – 51 hours of music video spread across 33 DVDs – makes it possible as well as sharing this remarkable artistic achievement with all opera lovers. A milestone!
The collection shows live recordings of the 22 operas with world stars like Anna Netrebko, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Thomas Hampson and Diana Damrau under conductors like Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Daniel Harding, Riccardo Muti and Ivor Bolton as well as background reports, interviews, rehearsals etc.
