The first performance of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” (The Marriage of Figaro) on May 1, 1786, was a resounding success, with the audience’s enthusiastic applause to each piece of music extending the production to almost twice its length. Today it is one of the most popular and frequently performed works in operatic repertoire. This recording took place at the Drottningholm Court Theatre, where the elegant surroundings and intimate size of the stage recreate the atmosphere of opera in Mozart’s time. Conducted by Arnold Ostmann.
