What we have with this particular set of recordings isn’t so much a ‘Karajan’s Vienna or Berlin Philharmonic’ focus as a ‘Karajan conducts the Vienna Philharmonic, etc’, the emphasis being very much on the orchestras and Karajan’s command of them, rather than a specific ‘Karajan sound’. –GRAMOPHONE
