AVID Entertainment’s new jazz imprint AVID JAZZ welcomes one of the greatest star sidemen of the 1930’s
……..Harry James.
Harry found fame while performing with the Benny Goodman Band and went on to form his own big band achieving
huge success from the 1930’s to the 1950’s. Our collection captures four classic albums released in the 1950’s, “One
Night Stand” recorded live at the Aragon Ballroom, the critically lauded “Jazz Session” , “Harry James in Hi Fi” and
“More Harry James In Hi Fi”. These releases signalled a return for Harry following a period of semi retirement and as
you will hear his trumpet playing has retained all its old qualities of verve and brash excitement encouraged by playing
alongside an orchestra full of fine soloists.
Indeed the great musicologist Gunther Schuller described James as “ the most technically assured and prodigiously
talented white trumpet player of the late Swing Era”
Great praise indeed! listen and wonder!
